Longshan Temple
🌐 Longshan Temple of Manka is a Chinese folk religious temple in Wanhua District, Taipei, Taiwan. Built in Taipei in 1738 by settlers from Fujian during Qing rule in honor of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, (Kuan-in in Chinese, or Avalokitesvara in Sanskrit), it served as a place of worship and a gathering place for the Chinese settlers. In addition to its Buddhist elements, it includes halls and altars to Chinese deities such as Mazu and Guan Yu. Longshan Temple contains a shrine for the “Old Man under the Moon”, or the deity of love and marriage. According to local legend, the “Old Man under the Moon” helps single people find suitable partners and couples seeking smooth relationships.
